87 Mercedes 190e Key Problem

My key won't turn in the ignition. In order to remove the switch, I have to turn the key to position 1. I need to replace the switch because the key won't turn. If I could get the key into position 1, I wouldn't need to replace it. Since I can't turn the key, I CAN'T replace it.

Who designed this thing?

Can anyone help me?

Problem solved. Took it to a shop, they drilled the lock cylinder out ($850) and now it works fine.
