Wonder if you guys are better than the Honda Guys?

Hey lads, so my car...Well it has its problem back, in summary so far, it was cutting out on me about 5 weeks ago to the point where the whole thing went dead on me and dublin and i had to push it off the street and get it jump started and then it was fine again, then the following week it was running rough and cutting out about every 10 seconds and sometimes it would not start as quick as it usually does, was getting fed up with it go brought it to the garage but they couldnt actually see what was wrong because it only kept cutting out in traffic. They checked the electrics, cooling, all that and it was all grand and they retuned the engine and put new plugs in it, said it was fine, and were puzzled by its cutting out on me
Last Week it would cut out about twice a day again in traffic, but would start first time and be fine again.
Eariler today on the way up to dublin it was going fine, however on the way home it started cutting out when i let the clutch in on 4th gear to 3rd. It started fine but kept cutting out so i used the choke for a bit, but it was cutting out with that aswell, I pulled over and turned off all electrics and i noticed that it was running rough, so i reved it for a bit, it eventually came right again after about 10 minutes and was fine the whole way home.
Is this a case of dirty petrol or something, even though the tank never gets empty because the gauge is broken and I use the trip meter, but over the time its been cutting out on me i've gone through about 5 tanks of petrol and been using that STP complete system cleaner stuff.
Electrics I have on usally are dim lights, radio and heater, tend now to keep brakes on when in trafic, was cooling fine, heard fan come on, ANY IDEAS?

new fuel filter may help if you think its the fuel. also check your coil, that may be going bad.

it would also help if we knew what kind of car and what kind of motor.

Re: Wonder if you guys are better than the Honda Guys?

i'm pretty sure the 1.3's were carbed, but obviously u'll know since u own it. anyway, if it is a carb, then u could have a "fuel problem" caused by a vacuum leak.

fuel problem is what it sounds like, check the basic things first tho like the filter and lines. check for vaccum leaks cuz i know some carbs run like ass when they have a vaccum leak. check ur air filter and PCV filter too, and EGR if ur car has one

Re: Wonder if you guys are better than the Honda Guys?

ive had one of these 1.3's , they are 1.3 16v carb

i would change the fuel filter, plugs leads dizzy cap and rotor etc,

does it only do it when the engine is hot?? or does it do it when you have just started the car etc

Hey all, so yesterday on the way back from college the car was cutting out, and then when i was on the motorway i could feel it loosing power when ever I tryed to go faster, so I decided to go into the garage which was right beside the motorway, anyway, then i was turning off the car cut out while i was changing gear, went in to the garage and the mechanic got into it, and it started without cutting out, we went for a test drive and it started loosing power, he figures its the ignition coil, and not a fuel or carb problem because he was driving it really hard. He figures that when the engine gets at normal temp the ignition coil isnt working aswell or when it is cold, thats why when he went to start it, it was fine becuase it had cooled down a bit. He brought up the idle to see if that would do anything, if not he is going to replace it, finally problem solved, untill the next one
