I basically have a simple question. Does anyone out there know EXACTLY what the difference between All the B16A series motors is? Which year make and model civic where they available in?

Well in Japan they are all B16a's no matter what year they were made in. Look above for more details. (the sticky at the top of the thread)
Otherwise the B16a3 is the USDM engine, only 160hp, and avliable in the Del Sol and 99-00 Si Civic. There were also engines avliable in Austrlia, New Zealand and Europe. As well as other parts of Asia, and I think in Canada. But I have no idea what the numbers are.

Our CRXs (we never called 'em a Del Sol) had the hydro tranny B16A but only 160bhp. It was built in Japan and imported here. My guess is B16A2 by US terminology. In the 6G series, VTiR coupes (US Si) were the same engine and I understand that the whole car was imported from the US, hence the poor build quality compared to the VTiR (B16A) hatch which came from Japan
Both only had 160 bhp though.

B16a--> JDM engine
B16A2---> 99-00 civic SI engine.It is a USA Spec only engine. B16A3---> Thats the Del Sol engine All JDM engines you will see them with just a letter at the end(I.E.> B16a,b18c)... If they have a number at the end(I.E.-->b16a2, b16a3) its a USA spec engine only. |

Never seen a letter at the end of a B16a, unless its a B16b.
Setanta, you got VTi-R coupes new in Ausie? wow, i thought the RHD coupes were only sold in Japan, where they only got D series engine powered cars. Our 6g VTi-R was the same as the JDM SiR, but with differnt badges. i.e. 170hp.

Yeah, we got the B16A coupes here and damn they look nice. Nicer than the hatch actually. I wouldn't mind driving around in one
FYI, we got and the VTiR B16A powered version and a VTi which may have been the economy VTEC SOHC engine or a D series engine. I've never looked into that one as I'd only want the B16A

Because the coupes are girls cars! and only made in the US, and I guess the Japanese didn't want the underpowered USDM B16a on the Japanese market. :finger:

![]() All B16's in Europe had a letter at the end. My SIR has a B16A1 ,150hp (which is Europe only I guess). The European 5th gen SiR had a B16A2 (160hp). I believe the Del Sol (CRX in Europe) also had a B16A2 over here. I don't believe Europe got a B16A3 but I'm not 100% sure on that one. |
