Clearing CEL codes and Tranny Problem
Hi,
Here's the issues: '97 Jimmy. The chedk engine light was comming on intermittently, now it stays on. Is there a way to clear the code? Also, the trans is shifting "hard" from 1st to 2nd gear. When I check the fluid the fluid level is fine, the color is fine but the dipstick itself is "rusty" Any ideas? Thanks in advance. STeve |

Re: Clearing CEL codes and Tranny Problem
You don't want to clear the code. Take it to a reputable tranny shop and have them check it out. Its probably a P1870(Trans component slipping) and usually if it isn't taken care of quickly it may be the end for that tranny- the hard shift isn't good for some parts. A search of this site(GMC or Chevy section) should give you more details of the problem

Jeez, the check engine light is there for a reason, Don't just ignore it and clear it.

Re: Clearing CEL codes and Tranny Problem
I just posted same problem - code P1870 and the dealer reset the codes. I was told that if it came up (check engine light comes on) again, I'm looking at a New Tranny. Sure is a lot of problems with this!
