Tamiya TS-13 over Tamiya XF-1?

Is it possible, with no ill effects, to spray Tamiya Clear (TS-13) over Tamiya Flat Black (XF-1)? That's all i need to know. Thanks.

Tamiya makes an acrylic clear, you would be better off using that.

Spraying lacquers over acrylics isn't a good idea.

If you don't have an airbrush to shoot the acrylic clear (X-22, I believe) then you can also use a product called Future Floor Wax. It is very thin, so you can apply it by brush and it self-levels very well. Doing a few coats normally gets things looking pretty good. Future is an acrylic, so it can be applied over basically anything.

However, even though it self-levels very well, I would still try to avoid doing it on very large areas, such as a car body. It is best for small items that need a clear coat.

Future is called "Johnson Klar, golvpolish" in Sweden and comes in blue bottle with a white cap. Like already stated, it's not a good idea to put laquer on acrylic paint...it's to hot to work out well.

You could use Tamiya TS-06 Matt Black instead of the XF. Just a thought.

If he's going to buy TS-06, he may as well buy TS-14 and have gloss black from the start

What is it you're trying to do Tikiman?

I'm not sure of the paint codes I used, but I sprayed Tamiya gloss clear over tamiya semigloss black once without any problem. Gloss black looks better though, IMO.

True. In my experience I've layed down Clear over Matt as I cut the Clear better than a solid color. The Matt dries much faster and is less stressful to wetsand. An extra step to add Clear yes, but the end result is all that matters.

I guess I'm too use to Clear as I do a lot of metallics.

Re: Tamiya TS-13 over Tamiya XF-1?

Well, Freakray, I've sprayed the body colour, then i am going to paint the window frames. Then i am going to apply decals with a clear coat over them. The trouble is that the decals overlap onto the window frames so i have to clear coat those too. Otherwise i would have painted body colour, added decals, clear coated and then flat blacked the window frames. Do you see my dilemma? Irritating but i have to do it.
