B18C swap, please help

I have a 94 ex civic coupe with stock engine, and i bougth a 96 GSR engine, what mod do i have to make to put it in? i already read many thread about swaping, and my biggest question is about OBD's, are they compatible? or do i need rewiring?, and what about intake and exaust sensors?, and radiator cooling, do i need a bigger one?, i know about the basics like shift linkage, axels and motor mounts, anything else will be apreciated.

If you live in California. you should worry about smog because your engine has to be 94 or older and you will need special wiring for the obd. I think ardperformance.com has the wiring. I'm not even sure if the 96 gsr is obd2 but it should be since all pre-95 vehicles are obd1 and 96+ are obd2. You should still check on that.

Re: B18C swap, please help

I am not so sure on that '94 and older comment. I am not in Cali and am not totally up to date on what they require for swapping an engine but I am fairly sure it is against the law to swap an older engine into a newer car. I swapped a '95 b18c1 into my '94 Civic. The '95 I know for sure is obd1. I believe after that the engines switch to obd2.

As far as wiring, you will have to do some. I am not sure what all you will have to do but you will have to wire up the intake butterflies at least.

You can get away with the stock EX radiator but a bigger one wouldnt hurt. DOHC Del Sol radiator will fit right in the same spot as your stock one and is dual core so it will cool better.

Re: B18C swap, please help

when i swapped a 97 b16a2 into my 94 del sol doch vtec, i kept the same wiring and obd1 setup. i just sold it last month, the only way i got it to smog was because i knew someone who knew someone, so that way I did not have to get it reffed.

Basically in a nutshell, it is going to be a fairly complex process. 1, you will have to go from OBD1 to OBD2, and from D series to B series. You do not have to swap youre radiator but it would help to take the radiator during swap, no real need to switch radiators. my dohc vtec del sol radiator would always get super hot and my aem intake would get hot as hell, they dont eeally help it cool any better than the stock wide version.
You can either go smog your car and re register it right now with the stock motor, then swap. or you could do it all the right way by swapping and updating to OBD2 and getting it to pass 'ref' aka state referee's association and then smog and that way if you get pulled over and harassed by the cops you wont lose youre car. because the cops will either A. make you drive youre car straight home and not drive it again until your appointment with the ref's, if you get caught driving it before then you lose it for good.
or B. they will impound it and screw you over royally for thousands. and you still might not get youre car back
i may be only 19 but ive been harassed by my fair share of oink oinks here in san diego.
im a NewB

In order for a swap to be legel, the motor has to be newer than the chassis of the vehicle. Your civic is a 94 civic, therefor your motor you swap in needs to be 94 or newer (same year or newer than vehicle chassis). Your 96 GSR motor is fine in this regard.

Okay, the motor your swapping in is an OBD-II motor. You must keep ALL the sensors intact and in the proper place, even if they are not used. You'll need to add air intake bypass wiring. The radiator hose you'll use is a upper 94 GSR radiator hose and for the lower hose you'll use a 94 Del Sol Vtec one. If you want AC, you'll use a 94-95 Del Sol Vtec AC bracket. You'll end up having to convert the motor to OBD-I. For the ecu you can either convert the motor to OBD-I (still keepig the unused sensors intact), backdating the electronics and usin an OBD-I ecu, or you can use an OBD-II ecu, ut you'll have to use the proper adapter harness or make the proper (and in-depth) wiring modifications. Typically an adapter harness cuts down on issues if going this route. If you can, since your car is an OBD-I vehicle, I suggest going the OBD-I ECU route, it's less complex. Remember, all the unused OBD-II sensors have to be intact still!!!

As was mentioned about radiators, your stock one will work fine. However, you can upgrade to a Del Sol Vtec radiator is thicker than your stock one. If you don't want that one but want to upgrade, opt for a very thick core radiator like Koyo or Fluidyne (Fluidyne has 38mm cores I believe, some of the Koyos have upwards of 53mm cores).

Also, some 96+ motors need to have the brackets under the timing belt and on the rear of the motor changed to the ones from the apporeriate year.

No problem, no need to apologize. I just wanted to make sure everyone who read this, now or in the future through a search, had the correct information. I wouldn't want someone reading the wrong info on swaps buying a 91 B18A1 and trying to stick it in a 95 Civic and then trying to go past the Cali visual inspection.
