sell me a lemon!

im 18 years old, and im on my third car since i got my liscense. i consider myself to be the most unlucky person alive when it comes to cars.
First Car

first i had a 95 del sol that ran perfectly when i bought it. 5 months later, i had a head gasket leak, a bad tranny and clutch, my radio didnt work, my targa top leaked like crazy, my speedo was 17 mph off, and i was pissed. previously somebody had tried to break into my car in houston (unsuccessfully), and had destroyed my lock cylinders. i had to order new ones for both doors, but get this! honda WILL NOT make two lock cylinders for the same key! i had a key for my ignition and trunk, a different key for my passenger door, and another key for the drivers side door. so i sold the car.

Second Car
ok, so now i didnt have a car. i was young, i was stupid. so i bought another sol. this time a 94 vtec, a little nicer ergonomics than the previous one, and 250 dollars cheaper. this time i took the car to a professional mechanic before purchasing it, and he assured me it was a decent car. exactly 35 days after driving this thing my power steering pump and rack went out. a week later i lost a/c to a bad a/c compressor (this was the worst part seeing as i live in texas), and my speakers/head unit were stolen in broad daylight (wal-mart parking lot!). even after that i kept the car in hopes of it running good again. but oh no, that could never happen! my clutch was starting to go out, i couldnt shift into third gear ever, and only sometimes into 4th, and i had a vacuum leak. so i sold this car, vowing to never own another honda.

Third (and current) Car
Over the past summer i purchased a stock 1997 eclipse gs-t with 57000 miles on it. it had one previous owner, a 49 year old lady who had wanted a "cute" car. as soon as i purchased it i started modding. by the time i was done i had a fmic, crushed 1g bov, big 16g, 550cc injectors, walboro 255hp fuel pump, 2.5" turbo-back exhaust, an safc-2, tokico suspension, a pocketlogger, dejon tool intake, and 2 sparco racing seats. i was happy as could be, and i though nothing could go wrong (yeah right). two weeks after i had installed the last seatbelt, i got in a wreck. a drunk hillbilly in a dualie pulled out in front of me, forcing me into the curb. i bent my rim, destroyed my control arm, snapped both my motor and tranny mount, and a host of other crap. all in all, 1800 dollars in repairs. i only had to pay 250, thanks to my insurance company. 3 weeks later i got my car back, but the shop had bad news. they couldnt find another rim like mine, so they left the bent one on their. so i had to go buy a brand new set of rims. 4 17" black enkei's later my car was back to normal, or so i thought. my tranny completley went out, and my act 2100 started slipping. i decided to get a tranny that would last forever, so i ordered a awd/fwd tranny from teamrip.com, and got awd axles from a junkyard. i also purchased an act 2600. 20 weeks later i have all that installed and i think, finally, im done! but then the flange on my mbc went out. i got in a race with a modded srt-4 and things screwed up. bad. i had actually been on the way to the mitsu dealership, and ironically i broke down 20 ft from it. i had to get my head completley rebuilt, a new head gasket, and other shit. 1000 dollars. i picked my car up 2 days ago, and now i still have a bad mbc, but something new. my power steering rack is bad and its 700 dollars to replace.

The Verdict
I've decided to give the car away (j/k) and my moped is on the way. i don't car about topping out at 35 mph or how dorky i'll look, at least everytime it breaks i can afford another one!!!!!

Re: sell me a lemon!

i'll sell you my 98 gs. i want 5 for it. great for a daily driver, and still has the good looks of the 2g's. most everything that could go wrong with it has already... leaving me in some akward positions sometimes. i just replaced the starter, alternator, and battery. the head gasket has been changed, along with the valve cover gasket, the thermostat, the timing belt, spark plugs and wires, distributor cab, a/c power steering belt, alternator belt. it's all yours if you want it. lemme kno

You steered away from Honda looking for reliability?

DSMs are fast little cars, but it's fairly hard to beat Honda on reliability. A friend of mine had a 93 Civic DX.. ran that thing hard every single day, redlining all the gears, pulling the ebrake, downshifting to 2nd at 100 mph.. the stock clutch still made it to 193,000 miles.

any vehicle is reliable as long as its stock. the more you modify a vehicle the more unreliale it becomes. thats why if you plan on highly modding any type of car you should prolly have a cheap beater ride to do your daily driving in.
