Amp problems

Hey my friend has an older rockford fosgate power 1000 watt rms amp.. we had it hooked up and everything was goin ok for about a week.. then he blew a fuse.. no problem.. so we got some new fuses and hooked it back up today. the music played for about 5 -10 minutyse and then the amp shut off. we checked all the wiring to the amp and everything seemed good so we checked the fuse. it wasnt blown but we tried a new one anyways. the new fuse powered it right up. then, same thing happened about 5 minutes later. we didnt have the music up loud and neither of the two fuses blew, but they stopped working. We are wondering if the new fuses are just shitty (cause they stopped working but didnt blow) or maybe are we running too much power through an 80 amp fuse? it would be nice for him not to have to buy a totally different fuse holder and fuses, but if thats what it takes then no problem. Or is it something besides that which we just arent considering? sorry its long i wanted to get most of the details in at once

Re: Amp problems

also, i just considered that maybe the fuses were actually blown but they broke up by the cap of the fuse where we couldnt tell it actually blew.. but if this is the case then i dont know why the amp would be drawing enough power at about 1/2 gain and like 1/8 volume to blow an 80 amp fuse.. i could understand blowing an 80 amp fuse w/ 100 watts at 3/4 or full volume and gain but i dont know what is goin on here..

Re: Amp problems

ok well he called me and found that when he wiggles the wire around at the fuse holder, it cuts on and off, so i think he was just gettin a bad fuse connection, hes gonna try to work on that but thats not a big deal.. thanks anyways but i think we got it figured out

Re: Amp problems

probably a bad batch of fuses, that's pretty common with AGUs

Re: Amp problems

yeah.. the only problem is that the car audio shops in this town dont offer 80 amp AGUs.. dont know why but that means he has to order them and its hard to know which ones will be good.. anyways im trying to talk him into like an ANL (i think is the name) fuse & holder.. but hes sayin that since his alternator only makes 80 amps, he would rather keep his fuse at that, so he would blow a fuse before he messes up his alternator/ drains his battery... i dont know if he knows exactly how everything works.. but his problem is money and so he wont buy a red top or a bigger alternator.
