'99 Durango / The old ABS & Brake light issue...

I replaced the speed sensor on the differential and flushed all the fluid... but the lights still come on intermittantly. The dealership says it's "probably" the ABS control module... which they would be happy to replace for $580!! Couldn't afford that... so I ordered the module directly and am about to replace it myself.

So here's the deal... my buddy tells me that after I replace the module, the ABS light will flash until I have a tech reset the pinion setting in the computer. Is this true? Do have any choice? He says the dealership will charge at least a hundred bucks to do this 2 minute task.

Please help...

No, I haven't replaced the module yet. I don't have the time or money to go to the dealership in the event that the light starts flashing and I can't turn it off myself. And I don't want my wife (it's her car) screaming at me about it. At least now it's intermittant.

I'm still hoping that there's someone on this board who's done this before and will lend some advice. Seems you're in the same situation.

I'll keep checking back here... but am not holding out much hope.

I know exactly where you're coming from when you said "you don't want the wife screaming" about the flashing light....I was in the same situation with my wife about the abs and brake lights, and they weren't even flashing.
Also agree that I (pretty much) refuse to pay the dealer outlandish sums of money... paying them the inflated cost of parts is bad enough.
In my case, the situation is a little different and I was fortunate that the new speed sensor fixed everything, AND the lights went out as well. Your problem with the module is much more expensive and more frustrating with needing to get the flashing lights to stop!
This board doesn't seem to generate any real answers very often..... I asked a simple (and stupid question) about whether there's a pin or keyway that locks the brake rotor onto the front wheel spindle, and the question just died on the vine. Surely SOMEBODY out there has removed the front rotors and could answer my stupid question....

I just replaced my rotors this past summer.
No pin or key holding them on.
Just a tight fit around the spindle and on the wheel studs.
Just give it a tap and they should loosen off.

Now if I could just get my ABS lights to go off.
