testimonial: airbox silencer removal

Ok here's my testimonial for all interested:

as you(escort fans/owners/relatives) may have heard, removing the airbox silencer should make the car go faster right? RIGHT! Here we go...

I have done numerous tests to my 1999 Ford Escort SE. By the way, the only things i kno i've done on it so far are performance muff(only the muffler no header or pipes), new sparks, and the removal of airbox silencer. Now, i didnt think it would make a difference but here are the results:
February(stock car) - 0-60 around 9s. i test 0-60 on the highway, but i tried testing it in a big parking lot. well, in the parking lot the car reached 55-56 mph before i had to slam the brakes. the car can pull all the way to 118 mph top speed(i kinda chickend out there).

September(airbox silencer, performance muff, sparks) - 0-60 now is around 8s!!! i didnt think doing all that would change much, but i went for a test cuz i was so bored. in the same parking lot, i reached 68mph before i had to slam the brakes. thats more than 10 mph faster than before!!!! i couldnt believe it!

do you think the improved times could be from muffler and sparks instead of that box?

noticeable differences with the box removed:
-the engine's louder at higher rpms
-when flooring it, the engine seems to PULL at high rpms instead of get slower as in stock

i will definately recommend removing the silencer box for all interested.

the air box doent cahng it that much, it must be either your diriving or the temp outside. it only dds like 1whp IF that maybe 2 up top, and thats stretching it.

Many people have said that removing the silencer increases horsepower. There is one drawback to doing it: you lose a little torque off the line. It may help your highway downshifting, but it certainly will not help your pull out from stop. I have a 1.9l 94 lx, it may be different with the 2.0 spi in the 97's and up, but I highly doubt it.

Re: testimonial: airbox silencer removal

I saw this post yesterday before i went and replaced the alternator on wifes 99 2.0. I replaced the whole air box on my 2k ranger with a cone filter and heatsheild. Helped it alot. gave it abit more tourque. It lugs around better in school zones. As for the escort I checked it and it dosent have a silencer in the air box, was amazed that there wasnt one in there anywhere. its always had a loud intake noise so I would think if there was one it was left out at time of production. Research on the ranger suggested that they didnt always put them in at time of production either.

Re: testimonial: airbox silencer removal

its right below the airbox that holds the filter. kinda tricky to spot, but youll see, or perhaps your wifes already ahead of you. haha. anyways, it starts off slow at first, but when it gets into the higher RPMs, kinda feels like vtec kicking in. im not even kidding, on 3 gear you will feel it since the gear is so tall. at around 50kmh on first gear, itll start picking up and really start to pull at 70kmh until about 135kmh when you hav to let it shift. i havent done a 4th gear test, but i want to!

Its not there. I know of where your speaking of. Its not in the fresh air induction tube at all. Its basicly the same setup as some of the older rangers and its not-a-there-a . So that mod most have been done on a monday or friday at the factory. lolololol ... And as for the wife. She knows where the key gas hands and feet go... Trust me!!
