the only way i know for sure to see if a valve is bent is to take the head off, and see if they all match up. are you 100% positive its coming from your motor? i thought my ticking was from my lifters, but it was my evap silinoid

Re: how can I tell If i have a bent valve?

Pretty darn sure, Its comming from middle of intake side right about where the "V" is on "16 valve" 1G valve cover. It varies with the RPMS and i just cant figure it out, where is that Evap solinoid? I have friggin babied this car for the last month I've had it and and this ticking was random and now after i cleaned the lifters its constant, WTF is going on? Could there be carbon or build up on the valve seat? I am just at a loss.

no you cant really test it if the head is off... unless you have the machine to do it.

to test it on the car, go to autozone and get a compression tester and run a compression test and post up your numbers... they should all be atleast 145+ on turbo cars and 200+ on non turbo cars

Yes. A very slightly bent valve will still show up as 0 compression most of the time, if not every single time.

Re: how can I tell If i have a bent valve?

Oh i really didnt think about that, my compression is 155, so thats great, could it this ticking be carbon bulid up on my valve seats then, I only say this because i have changed out the lifters and rockers and the loud tick is still there at that place. I am wondering if I turn the valve back and forth so it spins on the seat will this remove the carbon (If any) on the seat or since the valve dosent rotate under normal use will this cause me more problems?Im thinking about getting some of that mopar cylinder cleaner and using that to remove all doubt. Any advice guys?
