Sub System Questions

Hey, just thought I'd ask here since none of my friends locally seem to understand what he hell i'm talking about...I have two 12' subs in a box with a rear window and it's not an equal square its wider at the base and more narrow at the top...I'm running them with a 750 watt amp and a crappy kenwood deck which I plan to replace with a pioneer or something better, but this is the thing...I want to have a reaaaaally bumping system, you know, the kind you can hear from in your house when the car is a block away! I know it can be done with two 12's, but how?!? I can not seem to get mine to do it and it is really pissing me off! Is it just the deck or what?!? Please help with ideas! Thanks =)

Re: Sub System Questions

one of the main reasons is because you have a "bandpass box". the setup where the subs are inside and have the glass front can produce louder sounds than a regular box at lower volumes, but for REALLY loud levels you need a regular sealed box exclosure. as far as the rest of your setups, since you have an older deck, get a good crossover. you won't believe the difference a crossover will make with your sound quality and loudness it produces. what kind of amp? unfortunatly, if it says 750 watts, it probably only pushes actually (rms) around 150 watts. it amp is what will cost you the most, but if you get a good one you won't have to mess with blowing it out and will have less distortion. let me know all the brands and models and i'll give you a place to start. from what you're saying though, i'd get a different box.

Re: Sub System Questions

dude...what sorta subs do you have? because...uh...if you get a really strong amp...a competition for an example...it'll say 200 watts...but can blow your subs like they are rice paper...hehehe...competition amps are really long...well most of them...oh yeah...how many channels is your amp? and what kinda amp is it? if you do happen to have competition subs...the wiring is sorta funky...but you need to wire it funky...to get the full potential...or else its just gonna sound like crap...a rear window? hrms...interesting...ive never seen one with a window in the back of the box...normally its in the front...and the two subs are angled towards each other...with vents on the side...or those holes...and then the window is in the front where you can see the subs inside...but ive never seen one with a window in the back of it...ive seen all plexi glass sub boxes...they're pretty cool looking...and ugly at the same time...hehehe...but i dont think ive ever seen a back window...you should take a pic! id like to see it...

Re: Sub System Questions

Another concern you might want to consider about is when you upgrade your head unit, make sure you get one that you'll be able to set all of your bass towards your subs. I have the Pioneer 7600 with a bazooka 800 watt amp and two 12' comp kickers and i like my set up. So thats another consideration to take. If not and you blast the tunes real loud, you could blow your factory speakers if you havnt already replaced them with better ones.

To get the blood curtling hit you want you need 3 things. At least 1 12' kicker L7, an decent amp with at least 900W, and either an extra battery or a capacitor. Ive got 1 L7, with a Kenwood 1600 2 chanel amp, and a 10 Fahrad capacitor. I cant even turn it up to its max because im afraid of throwing my heart beat off, not to mention blowing out my windows. I would say that kicker has the best subs on the market, and if you really want to go ballistic check out their new X line. the 18" sub has a 10,000 (yes that it 10,000) watt peak, 5,000 watt continuos!!!!!!!!! That is something that you wont hear everyday on the street!

Re: Sub System Questions

if u dont wanna buy whole new shit, just change ur head unit, i consider an alpine, they have the best sub control. and when u get that turn ur sub and bass controls to the max. you might clip ur components if u dont have an amp running them, but the sub should bump. and btw theres only a certain amout of air a voice coil can push, so getting gigantic amps wont solve it. if you wanna save some money go to home depot and get some 3/4 sealed wood and some polyurethane and liquid nails and build a custom box to specs. thas what i did, check out my system. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/587607/3 and let me know how ur project comes out
