headers and back pressure?

ok im trying to find an answer to this problem asap. since my headers car coming in a week. will i need to add header collectors or reducers for back pressure or can i just leave the headers as open headers?
im looking for the most power i cant get sound doesnt matter. right now i have stock exhaust manifold on my car with just y pipe. when my headers come i plan on putting them on asap. i dont want to go y pipe again since im looking to keep it true dual. please help me.

Re: headers and back pressure?

Go with full exhaust if your car is stock to mildly modified. Especially if it is street driven. You won't lose enough power running full exhaust compared to run open exhuast. Besides, there are poeple in the 8's running full exhaust. Later.

Re: headers and back pressure?

ok thanx but i think im going to go with bolt on reducers or collectors with turndowns. then switch it back to stock with my flowmasters once in a while since those are still new. o yeah and would a cat with exhaust tubing from the headers to my flow masters work? i like the sound of these flowshitters i got

Re: headers and back pressure?

I'm going to assume you have an '84 camaro. If you want true duals you WILL have ground clearance issues. Unless you notch the subframe. Collectors with turndowns would be pointless, obnoxious, illegal, and you would keep a migrain.
If you want a good sounding, loud car, with unrestrictive exhaust, then get header reduces, probably takes 3 bolts to hold them on. Then notch the subframes and weld a plate back on the bottom to reinforce them. Then run the pipe back thrue atleast a converter shell for the visual inspection, and then into your flows. Either come straight out the back or turn-downs at the rear-end. That would be your best bet.
Soundwaves are amplifyed by the flow of exhaust. Do not run a huge pipe, and yes 3" is too big. I would go absolutely no larger than 2.5" pipe with the full exhaust like I was saying.
