Spare Key For 1996 318 Convertible

I just bought a new BMW 318IC 1996. It's a great car and all the only problem is i have only one key, my mechanic told me that the car has a EWSII security system on it. I can't just copy the key and have to get get it from BMW. The problem is the car was imported from the stated i contacted bmwusa to a person to contact to get a spare key with no luck. Any help on the matter would be gratefullllllllllllllll.
