Skip Shift Elimination

I have an error code making me believe that the skip shift elimination my mechanic did when i first gott he car was somewhat of a... redneck one. Instead of buy the $20 kit there seems to be nothing there at all. When i speak of nothing there at all i mean on the driver's side of the transmission where the skip shift wire or whatever that goes to the computer to the trans is missing. I found a capped wire in my engine bay that looks very lonely but i'm not sure if that is the other end and my mechanic removed the wire in between. This is fairly frustrating. i've been learning about Camaro's and cars in general on my car and ficing it up, and this seems to be the last problem to fix. I was wondering if anyone had a wiring guide that shows me where what wires are so i know where to run the wire to the tranny if need be and if that lone wire i found (on the driver's side next to the engine right benieth the mass air sensor) is the "missing link"

Thanks all!

Re: Skip Shift Elimination

i resent the redneck comment, further more i would like to state, for the record, that a redneck job is far more superior to a ghetto job. its just a matter of quality of craftsmanship. sure we may spit, cuss, and watch nascar, but dammit it we cant work on cars!!!

Hehe, ok ok ok. I saw the one reply and actually thought i had a answer. I am sorry about the redneck comment, what i ment is that it was fixed, but broke again rather quickly ( a red neck job).

"but dammit it we cant work on cars!!!"

thought that was funny as well

Re: Skip Shift Elimination

shift from 1st to 4th to get better gas mileage.

but anyway, my local shop did the same type thing to my RS, i complained of my torque converter locking and unlocking at 40mph, so they unplugged the TCC and routed the wireing up into my engine compartment. so thats probly the kinda thing your dealing with. buy the skip shift simulator, and plug it into the computer between the harness and transmission, and you wont have any more problems.

If you just unplug the wire from the trans, it will throw a code because the computer knows it's not connected. The only way to get around this is to plug in a 2.2K ohm 1/2 watt resistor so the car thinks its still plugged in. www.ls1.com has a section on doing this mod. I went with the SLP Eliminator, it's like the stock weather pack plug so I don't have to worry about water or other crap getting in there. And yeah, the skip shift light still comes on.

skip shift kit 98 Z-28

You are right about the resistor! I bought a "skip shift kit module" on e-bay ($15 with shipping) , and it consisted of a 2.2K 1/2W resistor and installation instructions. The skip shift light still comes on, but I can shift into 2nd gear, and the check engine light doesn't come on, as it will if you just unplug the wire. The resistor is worth about 15 cents, but it is worth $15 to not be forced into 4th gear when I want 2nd.
