volkswagen 1988 fox

My 1988 VW Fox has a new trouble occasionally when starting the engine after it was been idle for a while. The car starts fine, then when gas is given the car bogs or chugs several times then the gas takes and the car jerks forward. After this the car runs fine. It the problem with the filter?

Re: volkswagen 1988 fox

If the filter hasn't been changed in a while then replace it. With CIS systems that symptom is usually a sign that the injectors are partially clogged & have a poor spray pattern. You can pop out the injectors (leave them connected to the fuel lines) & place them where you can watch their pattern, jumper the fuel pump relay so the pump runs constantly & lift the air flow plate in the air filter housing so the injectos start spraying. The pattrn should be conical and a very fine mist. Any streams or mishapen patterns indicate bad injectors.
