16X10 Rims with Stock Suspension

Will 16X10 rims work on a 2004- 2500HD 4x4 with stock suspension. I am currently using the stock 16X6.5's with 285/75R16 Super Swamper SSR. I want to get some 16X10's, but on certain websites they ask if the truck has a suspension lift kit or not. Does it make a difference? Maybe they have different backspacing. If so, I wonder if I could use the same rims later on down the road if I choose to get a lift? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

With the Rim wider you could have a chance in rubbing of the tire. With the lift you have less chance of that.

I hope it's ok to ask a question. What is the larges 16" tire that I could put on a 03 1500 and will it screw up my mph?

Do you mean you mpg or speed indicator?
Any change in the overall diameter of the tire will effect the speed indicator.
the type of tire you get will effect your mpg. the more aggressive tire you get the worse the mpg.

You may be able to get away with a 32" tire under the front fender, anything bigger and you will need to either raise the torison bars or get a lift.

285x75x16 is about as big as you can go I think. With the tire being wider you might have a problem with rubbing on tight turns.

I mean't indicater. I'm putting bfg a/t's on it for the winter and was wondering how big I can go without rubbing. I'll prabably stay with the 265x75x16

I would agree.. any change and you would have to have the speedo recalibrated. The BFG A/T's are great tires!! I had those on my 94 silverado. Put 60K miles on them and still had tread.

Good to here about the tires. This will be my first set of them. Are they quiet and good in the snow I live in VT? It seems like everyone has them.

You will be very pleased.. They are pretty quiet for A/T's that are aggressive as they are. Good in snow and mud.

With a 16X10 wheel a lot of it depends on the backspacing, most x10's are about 4.5 inches of backspacing. Being an HD (two inch taller frame than 1500's) with 33's you might have some rubbage but nothing horrible. When I ran X10's and what was equivalent of a 33" tire on my 1500 Z71 I had to crank my TB's about an inch and a half and still had some rubbage but it was liveable. If you cranked your TB's and inch or so (dont forget to get an alignment), you should be in great shape. As for the lift questions, many lift companies use a knuckle style lift opposed to full drops. With the larger/taller knuckle if you have more than about 4.6 inches of backspacing your tires or wheels can rub on the knuckles or tie rod ends. So yes you can use the rims later on a knuckle lift as long as they dont have more than 4.5 inches of backspace. On a full drop you can use any wheel you want.

I ran 33" toyo Open Country AT's and loved every mile of them.... My 35" MT's are actually pretty damn good in the snow too. With my 33's my speedo was only off about 4 mph at 70.

I went to the rim shop today and inquired about some Centerline forged wheels. I asked them if I could go with a 16x10. They called Centerline and they said 16x10 are for lifted trucks and 16x8 are for stock trucks. My next step will be, going to 4Wheel Parts and asking them.

What sucks about going with 16x8's is that it is only 1.5 inches wider...not much.

I'll keep the 4.5 inch back spacing in mind.

The problem with a X10 wheel on a stock truck is it is a tough fit.... Most x10 have around a 4.5 in backspace and a +24mm off set, they stick way out and without a lot of room you get some bad rubbage... Take my situation, with 8" of lift and a 20x10 I would have had to do sheet metal trimming on the back of the front feders to fit. With 20x8.5 no where near rubbing. As for going with 8.5 wide, you can still easily get a 12.5 or 13.5 wide tire on there easily. although the narrow wheel makes the tires look a bit off
