Motor Oil For High Mileage Vehicles
What is everyones opinion on this stuff. It is my understanding that there is an additive in it that makes your gaskets and seals expand and be more pliable. It is also said that it can even repair some minor leaks. I am kind of weary of this stuff and wanted some feedback on the subject. Tell me what you think.

Re: Motor Oil For High Mileage Vehicles
I currently have 129K soon rolling to 130K, and I just use regular Havoline 10W-30 with an Isuzu oil filter.
I personally would not use a high mileage oil - (for my vehicle) for 2 reasons, I don't trust adding any additives to my oil. And for another, I know the history of this particular vehicle being the original owner, and oil/filter has been religiously changed at every 3K interval. Gaskets and seals do wear out, that's a given, but I believe with very frequent oil changes and doing it yourself, i.e. dealerships & other places are notoriously known for putting a full quart extra into these engines; that you can prevent many problems with seals/gaskets. As an example, I believe time and miles led to the eventual leaking of my valve cover gaskets 3 yrs ago - roughly 95K miles at the time; but it was kind of funny how they started leaking after I had Big O change my oil/filter - something I normally did myself, but just didn't have time when it needed it. Sure enough, they had admitted to putting almost 7 qrts of oil in the truck when I noticed it leaking oil 2 days after their work. Again, my fault, as I should've checked it before I left the parking lot. Replaced the valve gaskets, and never again will I go anywhere.
