Fact/myth? injector

Is it true that using fuel injector cleaner in older high milage engines can screw it all up. My dads friend told me this is because the gunk and build up around the vavles and stuff keeps it in alighnment.

Is this true or a myth

the gunk and buildup around the injectors is probably causing the injects to not have a good mist.

injector cleaner works great, when I used it last I found it increase my fuel economy by 1 or 2 MPG, not much, but what do you expect, I probably have slightly dirty fuel injectors.....

I've heard something similar: that switching to synthetic oil in a high mileage engine that has used regular oil can cause problems with gaskets. The theory being that the synthetics may help to remove deposits that might be preventing small loil eaks around gaskets and such. I've heard reasonable sounding people on both sides of that one regarding oil/oil additives. But I haven't heard that about injector cleaner. For one, like the man said, it probably doesn't do anything that drastic. Plus it gets burned on a specific fuel pathway so it's gone with the end of the tank. Deposits around an oil gasket are one thing, but you probably don't want to rely on them to prevent fuel or compression leaks. The injector cleaners might not do much good, but I haven't heard that they do any harm.

juis go to a shop and pay like 60 bux and have your injectors cleaned. My friend used the cleaner additive and it worked pretty well, made car run better

if you have your injectors cleaned at a shop they sometimes use a machine called a motor vac and that actually runs your car on this detergent and that will get rid of carbon deposits on the back of the intake valve which reduces flow but most fuels now have detergents in them and the injector cleaners arent even sanctioned so you dont really know what your buying but chances are it doesnt hurt to do it every oil change or so

with the the car idling -buy a can of sea foam, put vaccum hose in thats off the intake, and let it suck a little up at a time

BG makes the best additives, only ones ill use
