Re: power windows on a 96 grand am gt

When you replaces the front motor, tape up the window and drill out the motor rivits. The next step is to Undo the 2 bolts that connect the window to the regulator. Then pull the WHOLE assebly out of the big opening the the metal door panel. SOOO MUCH EASIER THAT WAY!

96 Grand Am power wimdow

I have the same problem on my 96 4dr.
-tape your windows in place
-to remove the door panel there are a couple of screws to take out, one was behind a reflector. You then basicly have to find the plastic snaps( I had 5) and force them off. They will have to be replaced to put the door back on but there cheap. Then remove the bracket behind the panel and the plastic thats covers the entire door.
-in my case I had 5 rivets that holds the motor and bracket to the door panel. Loosen the 2 nuts that hold the window and the rail will drop off the window. Drill the rivets out and remove the entire assy.
-Here I had to remove 4 more rivets that hold the motor to the bracket, remove them.
- the motor I bought came with screws to mount the motor back to the bracket, but you'll need (5) 1/4 x 1/2 or 5/8 lg. hex mach screws w/lock washers and nuts to mount the bracket to the door panel.
-put it back together and your done
Bit of a p.i.a. but not to bad took me about 3hrs.
good luck
