Bush takes a page from the KGB (seriously)
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/...r_id=111621361
http://www.americandaily.com/article/3824 "Primakov speaks beautiful English, as you would expect a former head of the KGB to do. When he was asked what is this CAPPS II program really about...Primakov said that this is one of the steps now being employed along with the National Identify Card Act (NICA) and new identity upgrade features which are coming to your driver's license." ******************************* Found elsewhere: CAPPS II is the name of the new program which is technically under the auspices of the US Department of Transportation, but that's only technical and the only reason they did that was to use the Transportation Department's budget to buy the computer hardware and software they need. The way it works is you give them your credit card and they slide it through like you would in a store and then they hit a button and the monitor reads: CAPPS II, SS CTF. The SS CTF evidently stands for State Security Citizen Threat File. But it has nothing to do with the Department of Transportation. It goes directly to a division, which has been established between the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and the CIA and several other federal agencies. This is a new division, referred to as the Office of Internal Security, which is coordinating the effort to establish citizen threat files on every US citizen. It will be a huge database including credit files, medical files, political and religious affiliation, military history, attendance at anti-government rallies, etc. ******************************* The official release: http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/display?content=1115

Enough apparently for the government to spend money on it. Insecure dummies.

Re: Bush takes a page from the KGB (seriously)
We already have a federal ID its called the social security card only missing a magnetic strip and picture.
Would it be really hard to tie in all states drivers licenses into one database? The federal government already has a file on me, I have a federal license and when I became a citizen they have all that stored so making me card another ID card is no sweat I have nothing to worry about or to hide.

I bet if Clinton even hinted, the above, you'd be up-in-arms about it. Just because it comes from the man you support, doesn't make it any less wrong, and you know it...unless you've been faking thought this whole time.

Neither would Bush! You forget being listed as in the military and actually showing up for duty are two very important distinctions!
Besides, Clinton had more important things to do!

BTW a question you asked in an earlier post in this topic. I am more republican than democrat. I do have some democratic ideals, I side with the liberals on labor issues mainly.

Re: Bush takes a page from the KGB (seriously)
The only people that should worry about carrying ID are those that are up to something.illegal. I started having customers put their thumprint on their checks and it sure cut the number of checks down among a certain group. I won't say which group cause the libs will whine.

Nope - that wrong. It not a question of doing something becaues 'you have nothing to hide'. Thats a misrepresentation of what it should be. Unless you've done something wrong or there is reasonable (theres that word again) that you've done someting wrong, there should be no national ID card or check when you do commerce.
Granted, there are times a background scan of purchases should be done, but it certainly shoudn't be a matter of course. I read the articles and noticed that they are nearly two years old and the legislation has not ever come back to the floor. Unless there is another bill in committee right now, I am not sure what the fuss is over. The mining program got squashed (as it should have). There is no bill to require a national ID card. There are studies and thats fine with me. There are studies on just about everything. Its what hits the floor of the house that interests me. Yes I am going to agree with you in that it is a waste of time and money. An ID card will not solve the problem. As for our social security cards they are incapable now but with little change they can be modified to be one. For the first 18 years of my life I walked around with a federal ID but this ID was issued by INS and its commonly called a green card. I do believe in the green card. But is the green card of use or is it a waste of money.
