Difference between turbos?

Hey I'm currently working on putting a turbo on my talon ESi cuz I have access to all the parts. I was just wondering if there was a difference between a manual transmission turbo and an automatic turbo and if so what is it? Mines currently an Auto. Also does the BOV and wastegate just T into a pressure line off the intercooler hose? One last thing is what are the four little plugins on the turbo for (located in the center) I know one is oil feed and another is oil return but was are the other two screw in fittings that are on there? If anyone can help me with any of this that would be preally apprieciated. Thanks a lot

Re: Difference between turbos?

I believe the 1g's automatics had smaller injectors (350cc), and a 13b turbo. Whereas the manual cars had a 14b turbo and 450cc injectors. I believe your four plugs are oil feed & return and water feed & return. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Re: Difference between turbos?

BOV and wastegate need to come off the intake manifold.

alright do you think there will be a problem running a 14b on an autofor now if i get a boost controller and run the boost much lower and if i wanted to throw in a manual myself at a later time then boost it up. So do the boost controller plug into the intake then that plugs into the wastegate and then the BOV plugs into another outlet or does the boost controller plug into the manifold then the wastegate and BOV T off the output of the MBC?

Re: Difference between turbos?

they actually have 390cc injectors, smaller cams, and the 13g turbo.

Re: Difference between turbos?

Yes, 390s. I wouldnt worry about going to a manual, you can build autos up pretty strong. Dont know much about the limits of the NT autos though. The BOV goes on an intercooler pipe, the WG will be integrated into the turbine housing for the turbo size range you are looking at.

sweet thanks a lot for all your help! I just have another quick question for ya guys. I just printed out the stock vacuum routing diagram for a TSi and these manifolds have a 4th vacuum line on the TB to run 2 purge control valve (so it says) are those purge control valve the BOV or what do they purge? also I guess the TSi have a fuel pressure control solenoid inbetween the reg and the manifold. Any need to worry about that cuz even if i got one my harness isn't wired for one. I dont really understand why itd need a solenoid?

Re: Difference between turbos?

You dont need the fuel pressure solenoid. Its only purpose is to close during startup to raise fuel pressure slightly (by blocking vacuum signal that would lower fuel pressure) to avoid vapor lock in hot weather. I've NEVER heard of a DSM doing this, with or without that solenoid. Another one of Mitsubishis solutions to a non-existant problem. Run a traight line from that manifold nipple to the FPR. This is also safer, one less way for that line to leak/blow off/etc (which would cause a lean condition under boost)

The only purge valve I'm aware of is for the evap (charcoal) canister. You can do with out it as long as you dont have a real strict tech on your emissions tests, if you have them. The car will pass the tailpipe tests but if he looks for it.... Very unlikely. I tossed mine years ago.

nice ya I think I've just about go all the main stuff figured out now except for how does the bov know when to blow off seeing as it is not directly connected to the MBC? does it detect a pressure decrease due to the wastegate then blows off or what?

Re: Difference between turbos?

It see pressure in the UICP where it is attached, and it sees pressure on the top via the vacuum line from the manifold. Where the throttle plate closes, you get high pressure in the UICP, and vacuum in the manifold, so it opens. That simple

wow that really is quite simple thanks a lot! I think I'm pretty much set now, I'm going looking for a few things these weekend so hopefully i'll have the whole project done in a couple weeks. I wonder what kind of boost I should run on the N/T engine without running to lean at peak points?
