I have a 2001 grand am se coupe. I bought it 6 months old with 27000 miles on it, should have been a sign right there.. I have replaced so many things its not even funny.. Its now at 59000 mi. And I have a few problems that have appeared and I am clueless and could use some pointers.
Thanks! 1. Everything starts fine, then a milisecond later all electric shuts off. doors unlock. windows wont opperate, radio shuts off, all lights shut off. This has continued any where from 2 seconds to up to 3 minutes one time. It will do it continually for a couple days, then stop, and start up again. It has been doing this for a month. Sometimes the service engine light comes on, sometimes not. I used to think it was a faulty start/kill switch on my alarm.. but its getting worse so I dont think thats it any more. 2. There is a weird, whiny rattling schreechy mic type noise, that sounds like its coming from the center or passenger side, it worsens when accelerating. 3. When idle (takes no more than 2 min max) the temp gauge gets almost to the 1/4 mark before the red zone, even at night when its cold out. I am clueless about cars and in desprate need of pointers here.. Please help! |

Re: 01 Numerous problems, electric? and other PLEASE HELP
Boy, I'd swear that this has been in some sort of accident or something. Could be something simple like a bad ground or major like bad BCM.

Re: 01 Numerous problems, electric? and other PLEASE HELP
the electrical gremlin is probably the BCM, it's a known problem in those cars. The screechy noise may be a bad belt tensioner or idler pulley. the overheating problem could be a sticking thermostat or a bad water pump, which could also cause the screech you described if the bearing is bad and it's leaking coolant.
