Civic SiR (4 races)

It seems I have run out of really good stories to tell as of late, it's time to go find some more AF stories. I might as well tell some classics from when I owned my 2000 Civic SiR (Canada), it was silver and a nice first car (and it didn't have a 5" muffler ). Nicely stock.

Race 1: SiR vs. SHO:
I was coming home from my g/f's on a Saturday night, it was dark, and a silver SHO pulled out in front of me. It was a newer style (maybe '98 if they were even made that year). Anyway, I kept my distance as I don't like to tailgate, but the guy was speeding up and slowing down. We made a right turn onto a long double lane incline, and I went directly into the outside lane in 1st gear. At first he let me pass but once I was a car ahead, he hit it. I had the jump though, and got by, keeping it pinned. At about 90mph we passed a car and I pulled in. He started coming up on me slowly in the outside lane, but then he backed off to miss a dead skunk in his lane. We came up on traffic and slowed to 50mph or so. I went into 2nd and passed them all with him behind me, not gaining, not falling back. Then we both let off.

Race 2: SiR vs. Grand Am GT
My brother and I were out for a cruise when this guy in a black 2 door Grand Am GT comes up beside us. We came to a red light and he kept inching up. My brother told me to get ready to go. I revved it to about 3500, and feathered the clutch, perfect launch and was a car ahead. Once VTec hit, I was able to put another couple cars on him through 1st and 2nd (3 cars total). After going into 3rd, he gained a car and a half back, but when the revs got up, I held him at bay. I quickly shifted to 4th and let off around 100mph, a couple cars ahead. It was a very straight stretch with no one around. I turned left and he turned right.

Race 3: SiR vs. Altima 3.5
Driving with my g/f, a fairly newly redesigned (at the time) 3.5L Altima was driving like an idiot. I got behind him and tailed him at about 75mph. When he pulled in, I went into 3rd and came onto it. I jumped ahead (I'm assuming he gave me a chance), and then he hit it. Probably to his surprize, I held him off all the way through 4th (112mph or so), but when I went into 5th, he put 2 or 3 cars on me. I did fairly well though. Before I turned, I gave him (middle aged guy with his wife) a thumbs up.

Race 4: SiR vs. Maxima
I was driving behind my dad in his 2000 Maxima on an open highway and noticed him leaving me. I downshifted to 3rd and hit it, into 4th, and then into 5th. Finally in 5th I started coming up behind him, and this is the only time I topped out my car (220km/h, approx 140mph). He just matched my speed. When we got home, my brother said that dad just accelerated in gear for a while and then dropped when I came up behind them. Once he dropped, he wasn't able to lose me, but I obviously couldn't go by. The two would have been about dead even from a dig (his is an auto).

My SiR was quick, but not fast, of course. I learned this when I repeatedly lost to a lightly modded pink Escort GT at an old airfield. However, with a good launch, I was finally able to beat him. It was a great first car. Hopefully the stories were somewhat entertaining. Until next time...

It was a 2000 SiR, equivalent to the Si in the U.S. A clean looking coupe with the B16 (160hp).

.so your dad actually raced you, putting both you and your brothers lives at risk??? damn, thats the strangest thing i've heard in a while. never heard of a father encouraging his son to speed, let alone racing him. love those SIRs though, such nice cars all round.
