question regarding 93 s13

sup folks...

just had a problem today... i started up my car as usual and drove about 5 minutes to drop off a friend. I was about to turn into his driveway when suddenly the brake pedal tightened up and my power steering turned off...... obviously the car died out... ( i didn't stall, my clutch wasn't even engaged) WTF?! this never happened before so on the way home i noticed my idle was bobbing around 450 to 550 rpm... which isn't the norm (it's extremely low and you could say that the car felt "weak?"). my A/C, radio, defogger, etc was all off. Just my headlights were on.

almost seemed like it was about to die again at any moment... took me about another 5 to get home... then i sat there for a while in my parking and the idle speed slowly went back up just a lil below 1000 rpm. i just wasn't sure what the problem was... so it would be great to have some input on what you guys think.

thanks...

Re: question regarding 93 s13

well i don't think it's electrical. If it was the chance of my car starting up again is slim to none. The following day... my car was fine... i just don't want to run into the problem again in the future. I'm thinking it's fuel related... ?? dunno what do you guys think...

Re: question regarding 93 s13

Yeah I was thinking if it was cold you may have gunned with without warming up your engine.

Re: question regarding 93 s13

Ooh... hrmm.. i think around 45F. Could it be temperature? I know the engine was warm... i usually idle until i hear the rev's drop or the temp meter starts to move.

as for driving.. there were no civics on the road at the time so i didn't need to "gun it".... oh but then again i wouldn't need to anyway even if there was one... lolz..

You said the idle was bobbing. Was it a ruff idle aswell? If it was, pull out your fuel injectors. They might be really dirty or you might need to replace one. My girlfriends Altima did the exact same thing like three times and every time that's what it was. The dealer kept on only replacing one injector but ended up replacing all four.

Re: question regarding 93 s13

Also did you do any mods on the car? A friend put on a CAI and didn't reset the ECU and apparantly it gave him trouble, if you can't think of what it is just unhook your battery for about 10 minutes and the ECU should default it to accomodate the new mod.
