and there lies your problem. Overclocking your CPU will accomplish nothing since its the videocard that is the bottleneck. Get at least a radeon 9600xt or a 9800pro or if you can afford it get a radeon x800 or a geforce 6800.

Re: Overclocking Athlon

yeah its old its already two generations old unfortunatelly. And even among its peers it was only middle ground slower than a geforce 4600.

Sorry for the bad news. Look for a sale on radeon 9800 pro you should be able to get one around $150

he might be a ble to get it up to the level of a 4600 which is still too low for doom3. Plus as a rule of thumb the few points you get from overclocking are generally not worth the potential instability or heat issues.

Re: Overclocking Athlon

and try this, I successfully ram doom 3 on my system last time, I just upgraded today.

I use to have 2200+ athlon (still have it)
352 ram
and a 64mb nVIDIA Geforce MX4000.

I could run consistent frame rate with all graphics options turned down and it ran fine and looked awesome.

But it was also overclocked to 200mhz over.

Try turning the graphics options down (and the advanced options too!) down and see how it works out. Overclocking is usually not the best awnser because if you overclock to much you have the risk of frying your card.

I now have :

Same processor
758mb ram
and a GeForce FX 5200 256mb, I can run full options and have consistent framerate with no slow downs or choppy ness

How'd u overclock your athlon? I wouldnt want to overclock it much, just like 200mhz. I heard Athlons are really good for overclocking, arent they?

Looks like i gotta get a new video card then

I believe he was talking about OC his video cand not his CPU.

On the older palomino cores to unlock the clock you had to insulate the little power draw circuit that amd installed then get some conductive paste and connect the L1 bridge.

Then you go in the bios and change the settings, you also have to make sure there is adequate cooling.

You have a 2400+ so you have a trourougbred core but i think the trick to unlock it is the same as a palomino.

However don't do it, what you need is a new video card.

Re: Overclocking Athlon

yep Neutrino was right, I was talking about overclocking my video card.

If I were you, and had around 100 bucks to spend, Look into a GeForce FX5200 256 mb, same one I got. I went from around 14fps (old card) in D3 to over 50fps solid.
