Window Tinting

I just found this site a couple days ago. A lot of useful info.
I bought a White 04 GA GT coupe a couple of months ago and I am now looking into getting the windows done. I live in NY and the law doesn't allow the side windows to be tinted anymore than they are from factory(THIS SUCKS). It looks like i will have to be illegal.

The rear window and the back sides can be tinted to whatever.

What do you think would look best???


I was thinking 5% in the back and back side and 20% for side, but it might be better to have all one % tint?

At what point do the police want to pull you over??

well i have a grand am too and i got my windows done i have 5% all the way around except the windshield of coarse and ive had it for about 5 months and havnt got pulled over once for it yet. now i live in pennsylvania so it might be different where u live as far as how picky the cops r so i dunno, but either way i would get it done the same amount all the way around even if its 35% cause my last car had 35 in the front and 5 in the back and it didnt look right so i guess its up to u

I've had 35% on all windows except windshield for 3 years now and never got pulled over for that either, I live in NJ which can be just as bad as NY with these things. Now when august rolls around i have to figure out what to do for inspection...

go with same amount all the way around... looks much better that way

I'm in NY with a bright red sports car and dark tints...definantly illegal...I also don't drive with a front license plate. Bottom line, some cops will be pricks and pull you over, some wont care, and some will only give you a ticket for your tint if they already have pulled you over for something else. It really depends on the cops, but I've never gotten pulled over for no license plate or my tint. But if you are giving the cop a reason to pull you over, and you are being a prick back to him...you'll most likely get a 2nd ticket for the tints...just don't drive like an idiot in front of cops, and I'd say you'll be fine.

hey grfnkl just alittle hint on passing ur inspection that u were worried about. all u have to do is roll into the garage with ur windows down and keep them down. they cant touch ur windows if there down. thats how i passed inspection with my tint.

Unfortunetly rolling the windows down won't always work, since sometimes they will roll them up to check to see if they are tinted or not. Otherwise I'm not overly concerned about inspection, If i have things my way My car won't be registered in NJ anymore cuz of high insurance plus I still didn't even get my other G/A inspected and it was due for october, but there are plenty ways around it, especially when you have a degree in Graphic Design... HAHAH!
