Hello fellow crx and 4g civic owners. I'm calling on you all for some advice.
My crx has a weird habit of cutting out when you take it into high rpms (4-6000) when it's not warmed up..once it reaches normal temp it runs fine. EXCEPT sometimes for some reason even when it's warmed up when it nears 5700-5800 rpm it cuts out again...well lately it's started cutting out alot more..usually in 3rd gear..when i hit over 5k..today it cut out at 5500! I was pissed off because I lost to my friends civic hatchie because of this...I KNOW it's not the timing because that was just set w/ a timing light...plugs and wires are only about 2 months old..I really think it's air/fuel related..could my air/fuel ratio be off abit?? I don't know...any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance! ![]() -Alan

yeah..shame on me!
now anyone with actual advice? EDIT: I wasn't gonna type this out but I might as well so nobody else has to get up on their horse and tell me about street racing. 1st: There isn't a track within a 500 mile radius of my town. 2nd: my town has a total population of about 3000...(montana lol) 3rd: my friend lives on a highway about 20 miles out of town..No traffic whatsoever.. and you can see it coming miles away if there is.. so we weren't endangering anyone else..except maybe the cows in the feild by the road..but they didn't complain. So don't think I'm one of those morons who goes zipping through traffic weaving around at 80 mph w/ my fart can blaring...I hardly ever race anyone..and this situation was totally fine..and probably 80% of people on this damn site go racing down the street through traffic in 'yer fancy big cities'! lol "end of rant" now anyone with advice on my car cutting out?

Re: a request for advice!
mine use to cut out, when I hit 3rd gear,
it would make a quik zip sound(chht) & shut down, it was one of my sensors under the distributor, that goes into the head, yours may be a different problem, but....its advice

Re: a request for advice!
for the engine to "cut out" at that revs i dont think its air/fuel unless you have a blocked fuel filter?
could it be the dizzy packing up?

Re: a request for advice!
Mine was doing somethin like that before, it would cut out at like 5500 rpm, then 5000 rpm, steadily got lower and lower. turned out to be the coil goin bad. I would also check the ignition module, they are both located inside the distributor.

well I'm going to look into the stuff you guys suggested..my dizzy is old it's from the old motor so I've been wanting to replace it anyways.
And the motor is a D15b (not d15b2 just d15b) not 100% what car it came from :/ w/ the dx ecu thanks everyone for the advice

Re: a request for advice!
Generally, the JDM motors don't have the numbers behind them....

Yeah I actually did know that.( how the usdm motors are stamped dif.)
I just haven't been able to find which civics came with the d15B.. one site said that 96+ civic cx's(?) had them so i dunno...anyways it's not a really saught after motor (i wonder why) lol. And one thing I forgot to add is about 2-3 months ago my car was running like shit(the same cutting out thing) and throwing a code 1..so i put in new oxygen sensor and it ran great again..on the interstate when my g/f was driving the car about 3 weeks ago the code 1 flashed again..but no driving probs. so i just ignored it..could my o2 sensor go bad that fast? and if so what would cause it to crap out like that. Also my battery is reeeally old, need a new one just haven't had the spare money..=( Would that effect anything? thanks again for everyones help.

if your dizzy is goin bad then it'll cut out like that. mine was goin bad and it would miss even cruising at 4500rpm (B16A). my friends b16 cut out totally after missing a few times at high rpm and it turned out that his bearing in the dizzy cooked itself, melted the rotor and so it was going in a football shape instead of a round one and missing a couple of the contacts in the cap. not the same application, but the same principles...
02 could go bad fairly quickly if you gotta cracked manifold or cracks around the bung that'd let excess oxygen and moisture and all that stuff in...look for a red line and thats your crack, this may also cause some small miss' in your idle... |

Well..I guess tommorow I'm going to get a new dizzy rotor and redo my o2 sensor connection w/ a saudering iron (it's one of those universal bosche ones that just splices in..checked the bung it's fine..I think it might be becaues it's getting f--ing cold as hell here and the wires are just spliced together..and dizzy rotors are cheap..if those 2 things don't fix it I'm screwed for awhile because I have bills to pay, lol.
Thanks everyone.

well fuck, put in a new rotor today..still happens..now it's starting to cut out at 5000 rpm. this is pissing me off..plugs are all fine. Could timing to far advance or retarded cause it? I don't possibly know how that could be it though..just set it w/ a light like alittle over a month ago. Any one who helps me figure this out you are my god!

well i'm not sure which injection set up you have and if it's the multiport then it wont apply at all, but some of the D15s have sequential injection and if that is the case i would venture that the secondary injector ( the one responsible for delivering the extra fuel at high RPMs) may be clogging. If that happens to be the case you could probably pick one up at a junk yard for like $10. Don't know if i helped but it's just a thought. good luck!
