Altima

I just bought a 2001 Altima. It occassionally continues running when I shut it off. Is this normal? It only seems to do it when I pull into our home's driveway. Anyone, know if it's supposed to do that. I checked the Owner's Manual today. Can't find anything. Thought I check before rushing it back to the dealer.

The whole engine keeps running? Are you sure it's not just a fan or something? That sounds weird.

Could Be

I guess it is the fan. Here's another weird thing. It won't let me engage the alarm until is shuts off. Is it normal if it's the fan?

No. That would be odd if the fan was keeping you from setting the alarm.

Lots of cars run the radiator fan for about 15 minutes after the car's been turned off, to cool off the engine just a bit.

If it's stopping the alarm, something's wrong.

Thanks, I'll call the dealer tomorrow. Do you have an Altima?

Nope, I've got an old Honda, but my fan runs all the time like that. It took me a while to figure out what it was...

My mother has the 2001 Altima and it does the same thing. It's the fan. I haven't noticed the thing with the alarm but then again I rarely drive it.

Alarm and cooling fans

Thats a defect in the 2001 model, there has been a service call on it, once you take it to the dealer it should get fixed, same as with the sway bar mounts they seem to have been recalled as well on some models, because they will crack.
