Turbo Engine & Auto Tranny ?

Since I have an automatic tranny, I am seriously considering having the folks at Level 10 rebuild my tranny with their signature performance enhancements (see http://www.levelten.com/). I realize that the stock tranny can probably handle boost to about 200 HP or so. However, if I go beyond that say, to 250 or 300 HP), there will likely be problems. For a full Level 10 rebuild, their staff assures me that my tranny would be able to handle three times the stock HP max (or 3 x 140 = 420 HP).

I grabbed this from another post .... Maybe I was misinformed can you put a DET in a car ( P10 ) with auto tranny ?

How come no one does it. ? I saw it in SE-R.net just one guy .. any thoughts guys ?

If you want to, do it. Personally I don't like automatics and since we are are sort of enthusiests we, as a group, prefer manuals. It comes down to preference. I'm pretty sure an auto will attach to a DET. Georges DET came with an auto tranny.

It's also proven that while Auto's are convient they perform (less power, worse milage) much worse than a solid gear manual tranny. Auto's are getting better and some of the new 5-speed auto's are performing pretty well.

Still there's nothing like rowing the gears yourself.

yeh, i just read this stat from BestCar (j-car mag) that 92% of all cars sold in japan in 2001 were AT's. there are a lot more sports-matic type AT's available in japan than in the US which makes it more exciting than a typical AT like on the p11. although i like the p11's AT for its smoothness...but the gear ratio sucks.

MT's are cool for what they are, but if you're not that good at MT and dont plan to practice, just get an AT. my shifting becomes pretty sloppy when i get tired. hehehe.

The DET should bolt up fine to the auto tranny. Bot the auto and manual tranny bolt up to the de block the same way, so i don't see why it wouldn't be the same for the det. Also, there is someone on the se-r mailing list who has an automatic turbocharged 200sx. I believe he had his tranny "modded" by level 10 also. Here is his website. http://www.brazosport.cc.tx.us/~lshadoff/turbo/
