Bad AC Air Compressor

Hello my fellow Drivers;

Has this happened to you, I just purchased a rebuilt AC compressor from a firm in Southern Califiornia. Also, replaced the drier and Orafice flushed out the system and recharged and filled it.

I did not do thework I had a professional shop do all the work.
After everything was said and done. The car never left the service bay. The compressor they sent me was bad. They used a blacklight to find dye leaking from the compressor.

Is this normal for rebuilt parts??

Any suggestions in recovering the cost to re-install the new one I had to order.

Thanks

Re: Bad AC Air Compressor

I don't think there's anything you can do. That's the gamble you take when you decide to save some money by getting a rebuilt one. I just had mine go out a few weeks ago too. The whole pulley froze up so I couldn't drive my car until it was fixed. (Seemed kind of silly to fix my A/C right before winter hits.) I put a brand new AC/Delco one in. Cost me about $800 when it was all said and done but it worked perfect and I have a year warranty on the parts and labor.

Hey there...Most ASE shops that do business with their supplier have a warrantee. Some 90 days 4000 mi. on non AC jobs , & 1 year 12,000mi on all AC parts & Labor. It says on the bill at the bottom where you sign. Now remember if you go to a AC shop (ASE) the owner may feel his people are very capable of their AC work & warrantee the labor also, along with the parts. i.e. compressor, orafice tube receiver dryer etc. BUT not the freeon R12 or 134a which ever your using. Note: rebult & new are different but should work just fine! Its the recycle yards that
pull a old compressor from a wrecked car, those are used by the poor customers that want to gamble and have airconditioning but there is no guarrantee on labor. Maybe the junk yard will let you have another but its too expensive to do over & over & over. So if a customer wants the luxury of AC they have to pay! Another words, do it right the first time!
