Re: so who here has a business in the auto industry

Along with working at a dealer all day, I have a small 2 bay shop behind my house.
I deal with GM cars and trucks, mostly driveability, electrical and safety systems.
I do most of the repairs that small independant repair and body shops can't handle.
I also do repairs on Harley Davidsons.

understand your market and set your rates accordingly. pay for a decent ins plan....

dont be quick to give whopping discounts to friends - make it cheaper than the competition....but your obligation ends there - you need to eat.

and lastly - know everything you can about the slice of business you are in - be it tech books, trade books, web resources....have the answers and be prepared to give pro/con speeches about why you take a certain direction when asked by a customer.

you will however take flack for being young and female. but the right miniskirt and heels can take care of that. Kidding. just be the authority, not arrogant on purpose, but state facts with gentle force and you will get a rep.
