1998 Grand Prix GTP died, won't start..please help

i just bought a 98 grand prix gtp two days ago and drove it all the way from il to va with no problems, and then today on my way to burger king the car died on me. i tried to start it but the engine only slowly turned over the first time and then clicked on the second try. i pushed it into the dodge dealership that happened to be nearby and they hooked up a jump box to it once and it turned over and started but i had to floor it so that it could struggle to keep running and then subsequently quit again. everytime i try to turn it over now it either slowly turns over or just clicks, but everything else works fine...power windows go up and down at normal speed and whatnot. tried to connect the jump box a second time and the engine turned over fine at normal speed but still will not even attempt to fire. please help!! i just bought this car and my other car is in undriveable condition (tranny) which is the whole reason why i bought a second car.

sounds like a bad gound to me. check all your wiring and make sure you have good, clean connections. IF all looks good, have your battery checked, it may have a shorted cell. a shorted cell will provice enough power for low draw accessories, but not enough for the starter to turn.

i had an idea that it was the alternator or the battery so i took out the alternator and had it checked...3V output...obviously bad. replaced it and car still won't start, but luckily one of the mechanics at the dealership cam out and gave me some assistance and told me that it was the fuel pump...so two problems at once right after i buy the car...hopefully that will be it and replacing the pump will be the end of my problems at least for the meantime.
