2000 mountaineer starting problem

I've got a 2000 mountaineer. 6 cyl. cranks and runs fine when cold, but after it has had time to warm up, it is hard to start. If you turn the key it just turns without starting. If you stop and try it again- it starts up most of the time on the second try. one problem at a time, but maybe this has something to do with it as well. The gas gauge doesnt read correctly, and the radio display also reads sometimes- and sometimes not. Probably not related, but they all started about the same time. And one more clue for those of you who are much smarter than I. From time to time my wife hears a high pitch sound from the rear of the car. I couldn't really hear it. But it mostly resembles a harmonic sound. wouldnt have submitted a new post but didn't really see this anywhere else here.
