Suspension Sticking Problems And Reset

My 1998 range rover 4.0 (with over 170,000 miles), suspension keeps getting stuck in either the high or lower position almost twice a week now (it got increasing worse to this point). I love the darn vehicle and its the only one I have. My pocket is is quite empty right now and I cannot afford to either replace or redo the suspension since the dealer is saying it will cost $2200 or more to do either.

It seems to get stuck after about 65 miles of constant driving. It can go longer as long as it is driven short distances. And each time it gets stuck in the high position it eventually lowers to the bottom position where the erratic and uncontrolled bouncing occurs.

BUT IN EACH CASE THE DEALER IS ABLE TO RESET IT ALBEIT FOR ONLY A DAY BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. They always tell me that its due to a VALVE BLOCKAGE AND MOISTURE BUILD-UP. But they refuse to tell me which valve is it and how it is cleared and get reset. I am charged $95 .00 each time they reset it.

The dealer has recommended replacing the suspension with a coil one otherwise the work to fix the current system will cost me over $2500. I don't have that much money. I get the feeling they are trying to force me to do it or else I am going to keep paying the $100 every time.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH VALVE THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT AND HOW IT IS RESET?

Hey, Im no expert in Land Rover though I've had a Range and a Discovery Series II. The suspension on your model tends to give problems. Either one airstrut bottoms out or 2 or 3 or all. If I were you Id get the Chilton's Manual for Range Rover 1996-2000. Check out how to reset your self the Valve without paying 100 bucks everytime.
I can elaborate on the Air Suspension. The system is controlled by a Computer that links the Speed to the Terrain and so forth. After years of usage ALL Air Suspensions tend to give up. The shocks can no longer be Air filled mainly because of what the dealer explains as Moisture. Various problems can be the reason of the shocks: Usage, the Air Compressor tends to fail, airhoses are worn, blocked, even broken. Check every hose and that the compressor still fills the requiered PSI. If after you the get manual everything fails. Look for and alternative suspension, look on Ebay for a normal suspension and buy bit by bit and have it installed at a local Suspension Shop. Do not GO to the LR Dealership, they'll charge you what ever they please. This is the main reason people DONT buy Land Rovers the dealership worldwide are too God damn expensive.

P.s. One last thing have the gaskets of the suspension Check usually they tend to give during the years of usage. These are the seals that hold the compressed air. The vehicle falls because they dont store enough air.

I Have A 98 Rover With 120k, Owned It For About 11mo, Just Replace The Airbags Not To Mention Timing Chain, Gears And More(due To And Oil Leak) And Now The Suspension Is Stuck In Low Position. I Took It To The Dealer And Of Coarse 3200.00 To Replace The Compressor. They Never Said Anything About The Reset ?? I Live In The East Bay Area(haward), Someone Please Refer Me To A Respectable Repair Shop. Any More Problems And Will Most Likely Sell The Dam Thing.
