should I change it?
i have a new tacoma with 1800 miles and im taking a nice long 1100 mile trip on the 1st of october, i heard i should change my oil and filter because the break in shavings from the motor could shorten the life of my motor. is this true? should i change the oil ? if yes what type? (reg. or synthetic) thanks in advance.

Re: should I change it?
I would change it, but not with synthetic. I'd put about 5000 miles on it before switching to synthetic.

Re: should I change it?
Ditto. Not sure whether or not it's a myth, but since I'm superstitious I subscribe to it.
For what it's worth, here's my routine for oil changes...@ 1,000 miles: change oil & filter (Valvoline to vehicle spec - i.e. 5w-30 and a K&N filter) Repeat @ 4,000 and 7,000 miles. @ 10,000 miles: change oil & filter, using Mobil1 (again to spec) and a K&N filter. Repeat every 5,000 miles. Truckpoor - is that a shot of my man, Lute Olson in your avatar? Take care, Jerry

Re: should I change it?
Mobil1 is the only thing I've heard anything about, so I can't really say what type.
And Jerry, yes that is a shot of OUR man Lute. Watch out this year, they're going to be tough. Hopefully he can get those bums to play some defense. |
