Re: Cali Knock Sensor

i just replaced mine on a 96 maxima...if the car is facing you its on the right side under the intake manifold...Chilton says to take it off if you want to replace it. I did it with out but my hands fit under the IM. your's may not

(try replacing it ONLY WEN THE CAR IS COLD unless you like the ER)

the KS is held by (1) 8mm bolt
its possible your stick you hand under the IM and unscrew it with a very short open hand wrench with the tip at an angle

if it seems stuck just find a better possition and try again.

make sure not to lose the bolt or have it fall through.take new sensor and bolt it in preferebly with torque wrench. the torque should be 15-20lb but double check.

removing the air intake box and the mass air flow sensor should also help becaus eit should give more room for working

I dont suggest using a flexible tip w/ a 8mm tip and an extension like most people suggest because unce the flex tip is under the IM the extension will pushing up against the IM (there is only about 3-4 inches max height clearence under the IM)

and if you plan on doing it w/o taking the IM off get some band-aids ready.
