PLEASE HELP! (and sorta fast)
I have a 1986 Chervolet Sprint. I know that this sounds really old and crappy, but it's a good little car, with only 38,000 miles on!!!
A problem started a while back, when the person who gave it to me, said that he had felt it sorta skip, but he put new plugs in it, and (once he reconnected the coil wire) he hasn't felt a skip since. Well, About a week ago, the car started skipping on me again. I would be driving down the road and all of a sudden it would be like the car lost power for just a moment, then it would just kick right back in. Yesterday, as I was driving it, it did it again, but this time as I did it, it started back firing. And then today, It skipped on me, and cut off .. it took a little bit to start back too .. for a little bit, I thought I was going to flood the engine. I'm supposed to be going out of town tomorrow, and I really need to get this quickly fixed. Any help you could offer would be appreciated. |

Re: PLEASE HELP! (and sorta fast)
Well I would get everything Checked out first. Sounds like the coil could be going or your distributor cap is wack and is not getting the proper spark. Also Possible you might need some new spark plugs. I would basically change everything that has to do with the electrical for running the Engine. (Distributor, Distributor Cap and rotor, Coil, Spark Plugs and Wires) If you feel confident and know what to look for. I would just check it out for yourself if your a hands on person. Those are things I would look at and fix if nessary. But if your not to sure, I would bring it to someone. Plus you said it was back firing, could also be something with fuel too. Either getting to the Carb or somethings wrong with the fuel pump. Just make sure to get it checked out. Hope this Helps!! Take Care.

Re: PLEASE HELP! (and sorta fast)
Ditto, this is classic ignition stuff. An old time tune up will cure it right away. Replace the distributor cap, rotor, wires and plugs. Good Luck.
