I Need help

Ok well i have posted a few things on here regarding changing my spark plugs and finding the location of my pcv valve......I have owned my 3.1 v6 automatic lumina for almost a year and my boyfriend has been putting off fixing anything on it! Its been running fine for a while untill this week when i was sitting at a stop light and went to accelrate the thing stalled on me! Now it is doing it more and more often to the point of when i went to turn left it stalled and i almost got t-boned! anyways i need to get this fixed asap as i need my car to go to school..... I was wondering if it could be caused by anything besides a tune-up He hasnt changed my spark plugs becuase he thinks its a big pain in the butt! I need to renew my aircare in 10days and i know its not going to pass....

Im starting to wonder if its easier for me just to take it to a shop and get a tune up but i dont want to be ripped off. So i just want ot know if i should change anything else besides the spark plugs

Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated

Your boyfriend is lazy if he thinks its hard to change plugs on a lumina. Believe me its easy, compared to alot of newer cars. Say a Ford Taurus for example, gotta lift the engine, unbolt one of the engine mounts and cock the engine forward to get to the rear plugs.
The stalling could be a result of a clogged feul filter. Id try replacing that first since its cheap ($6-10 range) and it sure wont hurt if it doesnt help. Im really out of it right now or else I could offer more help. Ill have to come back to it tomorrow or something and maybe ill be able to give a few more ideas.

Re: I Need help

By no means is it required, but its gonna make your life 9000 times easier if you do. Changing the plugs is not hard, it takes all of half an hour max. I'm not quite sure what would be the stall problem, someone else may know that. As far as the tune up, just change the fluids and filters, give the door hinges a bit of clean oil, change the wiper blades, etc. Basic maintainance is all I do to our cars, and the last one we had went 190k before we sold it (and it was running near perfect).

Flipping the motor is no big deal on these. 4 bolts, 10 minutes and a ratcheting tie down is all it takes. I doubt the plugs are your answer here too, but the fuel filter could be.

Theres no reason for you to have to rotate the engine to change the back plugs on a lumina. I dont need to on my Corsica, and its got a smaller engine compartment! I did it just fine with a swivel adapter and a 6 inch extension.
