this is gonna make me look stupid but...

ok what i want to know is how does a turbo work? does it have to match up with the block or the head? what is turbo lag, and what would i be better off doing (amount of boost and hp per dollar) turbo on a b20 block and b16 head or a supercharger?

im no "pro" or whatever but i can just tell you what i know..anyone else feel free to add..A Turbo works buy running off exhaust gases and uses that to make power . It has to Mach up with the block. Turbo's match up with the block and superchargers match up with the head. Turbo lag is the time the Turbo takes to spool up boost. Superchargers make boost from the moment you step on the gas because it runs of the air coming through the intake. And if you're wondering what your better off doing..it all depends on your personal preferance. If you want a daily driver with a lil kick you can go with a Supercharger or Turbo (Stage 1). Turbo's require more attention towards maintenance where Superchargers you just do your regular oil changes. If your going to use your car mostly for racing then go with a turbo and upgrade it. Hope this helps you out bro..again anyone else add or comment..woudlnt wanna give anyone misleading info..Peace

turbo is run of exhaust gases which spins a turbin which compresses the intake flow, so it bolts to a sopecial manifold, a SC, does the same thing, it compresses the intake air,m excep[t it doesnt run off he intake air, it runs off of the engine buy usoing a pulley, whihc is why it is instantaneous, the ngine spins, the SC does too, a turbo takles time to spool up because ayt foirst the exhaust gases dont flow fast enough to get it spinning goods, especialy wiht a larger turbo, but when the rpms go up theres more flow and the turbo is spooled

Im not an expert either so others can add to mine

so let me get this straight....pretty muchly your sayin that a supercharger gives you instantanious power, a turbo gives you more power but takes more time to kick in...ie turbo lag.

Yup..the supercharger gives you full boost from idle throughout the rpm band...and Turbo usually reaches full boost around 2500 depending on your setup..

a SC doesnt give full boost at all times though i dont think, because when thre engine is only at like 1500RPM, I guess it could give some bost but i dobnt think that you could get 11 psi or so at idle, maybe, but also on the JRSC, I think it only works when on the throtle hard becauise of some vaccum thing that bypasses the boostwhen cruisuing

that is incorrect. full boost isnt reached until the motor is revving at the supercharger's highest specific output.

but it does create boost lower in the rpm band, just not full boost from the start.

thought so, and also you cant get near the boost off a SC that you can off a turbo, right?

also can you SC and turbo?

so oyu can have the SC to give you some power off the line and then have the turbo spool up later and give more boost, or like take over and give you a tonna boost.

is there any SC you can turn on and off with a switch, never seen em, cept for a movie and you know how that goes
