Re: most power out of non turbo engine

the two biggest hp increases you can get with a n/a is headers and nitrous (75 shot on stock internals). then you just got intake, exhaust, ecu, polished and extrude plenum, underdrive pulley, ported throttle body, injector upgrade, and that is about it.

Re: most power out of non turbo engine

... Yea thats about it Jared.

I would suggest these modifications:

-Underdrive pulley
-JWT Pop charger
-JWT ECU
-AMZ Headers
-STILLEN honed, polished, extruded upper plenum
-Valve train work
-Twin Turbo injectors
-Twin Turbo MAF

Thats about it for powergain... I would say dont worry about it, not worth the money.

dont let the price of the parts to make an n/a fast steer you away. with those mods listed above and a nice aftermarket clutch, lightened fly wheel, and all the little things. you can run good numbers in the 1/4 mile. there is a guy with a slicktop that has nitrous, intake and exhaust claiming passes of mid 13's.

Re: most power out of non turbo engine

talk to wes, he can probably hook you up with a tt clip for around 2.5-3k depending if you want manual or automatic tranny... and that's definitely what you want to do... the n/a tranny wouldn't hold up if you just upgraded the engine.. not meant for 300+bhp.. and that way you get all the little bits and pieces you'd need..

Re: most power out of non turbo engine

180k miles is getting close to the engine's end of life. so i wouldn't bother doing upgrades on that engine. i would go ahead with the swap.

Swap? Why not rebuild? I don't understand why all these NA guys are so boost envy! If you really want a fast NA/nitrous fed Z.... talk to me.

Re: most power out of non turbo engine

probably because it's the best way to make power... easiest and most efficient... and way cheaper than trying to build an n/a..... just a thought

Thank you Mr. Iviadrft. Rebuild it, and when you do put ARP rod bolts along with forged pistons, a underdrive pulley and light flywheel, unless it automatic. If it's automatic use a HKS ALC II, a set of hedders and 2 1/2 exhaust, Pop intake and a dual program EPROM ecu. Use a 27C512 chip and install the first program to start at $0000h and is $7fffh long, the second program to start at $8000h and is $7fffh long. The first program well be used for normal driving, and the second program well be retarded 8 degrees for nitrous. Flip the switch and arm your nitrous and color you gone. Flip it the other way and you just have a nice running Z32. Make sure you keep your base timing at 15 degrees. I would use a two stage nitrous setup. One Zex dry 75 shot. The other wet with dual nozzles, starting at a 100 shot. The 75 shot well let you keep up with most stock hot dogs, but when it gets serious kick in the second stage. You'll have a good running car that well blow the doors off 90% of most cars. But if you want to get real serious then copy this guy.

How fast do you want to go? How much money you wanna spend? Going fast costs. While your rebuilding your engine, make sure you do a complete 60,000 service on the engine.

I see NO reason why we should compare the NA to the TT... they are completely different animals...

I like your style Zgringo!

Iv, When you get as old as I am you don't want to waste alot time going 1/4 mile. It takes away from beer time and other things. And I damn sure don't want to waist time on things that won't or don't work. What really piss me off is (most) the people that put down the NA's. I have 3 Z's, 2 that were TT's and one ???? it's going to be a Z45NA for now. They take 2 of the best cars ever built and bad mouth the lesser of the two. Then their's the group who lay claim to how fast the RX7's are, and lets not forget the american pony cars. The truth of the matter is a little unknown japanese guy named Hiroshi Shiobara, stright from japan, unloaded his car (a 300ZX) and without time to tune it blew the doors off everything we the inventors of drag racing had, and he's still doing it. Only not he's going after the big gun's. He's building a new car with a Nissan V8. If that isn't good enough his friend has a 300ZX that's NA and run's in the low 10's or by now maybe high 9's. So all you blown RX7's and Toy's, pull your turbo's off and try this one.

What can i say, When you own the best, you smile at the rest.
