Hello
I have a problem with my 1978 F100 with a 302 and believed to be C4. First off, I have had problems with my transmission leaking fluid. It would get to about a quart of tranny fluid for every 50+ miles. I was hauling a stock trailer the other day when all the sudden the transmission just started slipping. Then finally it went, I couldnt go any farther. So I ripped the engine and transmission out and in the bell housing there was a metal shaving, which indicates to me the transmission. But what are some of the symptoms of a transmission going out and what are some symptoms of a torque converter going out? How can I test to see if the torque converter is still anygood with it still bolted to the flywheel. Thanks a lot. Luke Baker |

the syptoms you described are good indicators are good signs of a failing transmission. I'm not sure of a home way to test a torque converter, I would take it to a shop and see if they can test it for ya.
