all I get is a click...
I just bought a 2000 GTS, and I was going down the road the other day in 3rd gear at 6500 rpms, i went to pull 4th gear and accidently hit 2nd gear instead( it has a major short throw shifter in it) The rpms ran up to the limiter and the engine died, so I pulled over and tried to turn it over, the starter would turn over but as much as we pumped the gas we couldnt smell any fuel so we thought there must be a safety to cut fuel at those rpms. We kept turning it over and after a little while all that we got was one click and then nothing. We thought maybe the battery was dead but we checked it and it was perfect. As far as the fuel cut I found one of the EFI fuses was blown, so i replaced it but now all I get from the starter is the one click. I took the starter out and the contacts are good, so we hooked it up to direct power and the starter will turn but it doesnt push out.. so I put it back in the car but it will only click everytime I hit the key... anyone have any ideas as to what is going on, any help will be much appreciated

well, it might be the starter. but I would get the car to the mechanic before I do anything. Maybe you put a hole through a piston or somthing? I don't know.

Re: all I get is a click...
even if i put a hole throught the piston the car should still turn over, at least i think it would....the weird thing is that it was cranking fine until I kept on it for awhile, then it stopped.

Re: all I get is a click...
Dude... get a new starter... if you keep on it the starter will go to shit really fast!! I've seen it before mainly in winter when someone outside is trying to start their car and all they are doing is rowrowrowrowrowrowrowrowrow then either the battery dies or the alt does. If the click is coming from elsewhere than the alt try to find the starter relay and try jumping the two posts... which ones I don't know cause i'm not familiar with celicas
