Possible recall?
We bought a brand new 2004 Altima this year and have had nothing but problems. The service engine light keeps coming on, and when we bring it to the dealer, three times they have just shut it off, later telling us we have a bad catilitic (bad spelling I know ) converter. They finally told us what it was after we called them on the lemon laws. So we are on BACKORDER for one, because it seems they all went in the 2004's around here. Has anyone heard of a recall?? And would the converter really cause the service engine light to come on? Is it ok to run with a bad converter? Someone said yes, someone said no. We went out this morning and the darn thing wouldn't even start! Would it malfunction bad enough to make the car not start? Yes, I know alot of questions lol But we are really getting sick of our first brand new car.

Re: Possible recall?
a bad catalytic converter would not cause the vehicle not to start unless it is clogged to the point where no air can flow through it even then if it was clogged to that extent it would start and then die out...a bad converter can cause a light to go on, do you know what code it was that they pulled from the computer...

Re: Possible recall?
I remember hearing about a recall but it was about some moving part hitting hooking on something

Failure of the Canister Vent Control Valve can cause the check engine light to illuminate. The cost to repair the Canister Vent Control Valve is estimated at $60 for parts and $50.00 for labor. I don't know how much it is for the car to diagnosed for the problem. I hope this will help you.

Re: Possible recall?
on the 2.5 the cat is very sensitive due to the fact of where it is located if your car miss fires and you drive the cat is fry to take it one step further when those cats fry on those cars they use valve over lap to suck alittle exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber so the cat over heats and starts to come apart into a sand like material it reenters the engine starts burning oil and the locks the engine up it is very common on the cars that are abused their is a recall on that car i think their is 2 or 3
