remote start

Hey guys I am new to this forum but I just bought myself a 2000 Blazer 4x4 with every option I could ever think of. I just got done putting new tires on it (600 bucks) so I am a little broke for right now but I was wanting to put a remote start on it before winter comes. I know there are ones out there with an extra remote or that replace the whole system but I want one that uses the stock remote. One guy I was talking to said he got a remote start for his car and started it by hitting the lock button 3 times. So if anyone knows anything about this please let me know.

Also I would like to give it a little bit of a better sound and I know out piping is pretty big and a set of headers would really not make that big of diff. but what flowmaster should I get and will that give me any HP. Also how much HP would a set of headers get me.

One last thing, does anyone run any type of K&N and got rid of the stock air box? And if so how much of a gain is that along with which one did you get.

Thanks everyone for your comments and if you have any questions ask away.

Cooper

Re: remote start

Ok, Here we go....

1.) Avital Makes some awesome remote start systems. Mine is the Model 3200 and comes with remote locks and rear hatch abilities. Get rid of the stock remote and use the new one that comes with the remote lock systems. You will not need the stock ones once it is installed.

2.) Yes, the new intakes do make a difference but theya re not worth the money unless you are hardcore. Get the K&N replacement drop in filter and you will be good to go.

Thanks for your post. How much did your remote start cost and if all possible I would still like to keep the one from factory so if anyone else wants to ring in here and knows of a system that would be nice. As for the K%N, your saying to leave the stock air box? or not? Also someone was telling me about a chip that could give me some performance and I am not real hard core into running this thing fast but I would like it to be faster than it is right now. Also will a flowmaster add any hp I am sure its not much if it does but mainly more sound, how many chambers should I get on it 2, 3, 4?

thanks

Re: remote start

Yes, use your stock box and just use a K&N drop in filter replacement. If you want improved stock airbox flow, you can modify the lower portion of the box and open up the inlet. Cheap and will net you the same HP difference.

You do not want a remote start that is used by your existing stock remote.

Buy a new system with the new remotes or do not install one. It is just that easy. All you are doing is making the system more complicated.

Do not buy the HP chips, they are a rip off and don't work.

If you are going to get a Flowmaster, get a Flowmaster 40 2.25" center inlet, offset outlet.

Re: remote start

I upgraded my truck with a clifford alarm that included Remote start. The specific model i'm using is the Matrix RS2:

Has been working great for me so far.

Re: remote start

You can go with a remote starter that uses the OEM remotes but I wouldn't recomend it either. I sell them but they are only popular to people with highend cars like Caddys, Hummers, Mercedes and such. The reason I do not like them is that you lose a lot of features and most of all, the range sucks. Also, factory remotes do not have a long history of life either.

DEI (Directed Electronics Inc.) makes all the ones talked about above plus others. If you go with the higher end ones like Python, Clifford, or Viper you'll get at least 1/4 range and lifetime warranty. If you replace the 3v. remote battery with 2 slimmer 3v. battery you can sometimes double the range! Take a look at their website, you should be able to find a good dealer next to you. www.directed.com

I appriciate everyones input. I will go with a whole different system before winter comes so I dont have to deal with the cold. Prob the flowmaster and K%N this weekend. One more quick question, does anyone run aftermarket headers? I would want them more for sound than for HP gains but would like to hear from someone with them. Also does everyone like their shift points? I am use to driving a little stick shift car and this is my first SUV and man I will be going along at like 2 grand and it will shift down to around 1.5 grand. I dont know I just dont like it because I would never shift there if I was controling it. Also anyone with a trans cooler (was that a factory option)? I think thats all for now I am sure I will think of more as the week goes on but thanks again for everyones input.

Thanks
Coop
