Question Problem with VTEC

I have a 5th gen prelude...base model. to anyone else who has one...when vtec kicks in, do you feel the pull? cause i sure dont. i can only hear when vtec kicks in. i have a friend with a civic hb with a gsr swap and i took it for a ride a couple days ago. you can defiantly feel the pull when vtec kicks in...it pulls hard and with the prelude he was like...is the vtec on or what. is this cause the prelude is so heavy?

Re: Problem with VTEC

No. Even a fifth gen (hehe ) should be able to feel it. Check your oil pressure again, this is the most common ailment to VTEC problems.

Re: Problem with VTEC

1) Is your engine coolant at normal, warmed up, operating temperatures.
2) Has the car ever been dyno tuned.
3) Is it stock or not. What modifications do you have on it.
4) Is there a CEL.

VTEC depends on several things, oil pressure, temperature, and all the different sensors and solenoids working properly.

Re: Problem with VTEC

go to your mechanic and have a diagnostics done on it... if there are anyproblems with the vtec they will know... your engine check light isnt on is it? with my old accord for some strange reason the engine check light came on one day, vtec stopped kicking in, light shut off, vtec worked fine... could be many things

Re: Problem with VTEC

the only thing i done to it are header, intake, exhaust, and pulley. the car has never been dynoed. i dont see a reason to do it since i have such few mods. the vtec does kick in...i can hear it but there is no pull. it's like a small mini boost compared to the civic hb my friend has.

Re: Problem with VTEC

You're going to feel it more in a civic HB with a GSR swap. That's a light car with a pretty beefy engine - for a 4 cyl. Maybe you're expecting too much out of it.

Re: Problem with VTEC

i used to really feel vtec kick in when i first got my car, now i hear it more than i feel it. i think i just got desensitived to it. however, i do think i have a problem with oil pressure, how the hell do you check that?

Re: Problem with VTEC

I was going to say... if you don't feel VTEC, there is something wrong with the engine components. Or you've been dyno tuned to have a smooth VTEC crossover.
