Question passenger side A/C leak - cracked heater box?

We have a 2000 T&C and whenever we run the A/C, water leaks onto the passenger side floor. I just took it into a Chrysler dealer to find out the problem, and was told that the heater box is cracked. They quoted the repair cost at $1150 because they have to remove the dash. They also said that the crack was likely due to an impact from inside the car - i.e., someone kicked it. Does any of this sound reasonable?

Angry Re: passenger side A/C leak - cracked heater box?

My 2001 A/C leaks into the passenger side floor board and I can assure you that there was never an impact inside my car - as 99% of the time it is me up-front alone (children always ride in the back). Personally, I think it is a problem with Chrysler and they just won't own up to it. I was quoted $800 to fix my A/C because of the dash removal. However, that did not include a cracked heater box.

My mechanic said that he has had over 3 dozen plymouth/dodge/chrysler minivans in with the same problem since the beginning of the summer. That is alot of vehicles - in a small rural town in South Carolina.
