Buy new rods or new ZC?

Replaceing the rods is going to be a few hundred dollars I am sure, But would it be better if i just replaced the whole ZC motor?

Its a DOHC ZC.

Re: Buy new rods or new ZC?

guess it depends on how much you can get a whole motor for.

Re: Buy new rods or new ZC?

Well everything is brand new as of february.... tranny, alternator, dizzy, clutch needs replacing.... but all the motor stuff is new from february so I have all the extras...

Aren't ZC's around 500$ or so?

EDIT: I sound like such a n00b

Re: Buy new rods or new ZC?

If it IS rods, yeah, get a new motor. I let mine die this year because repairs to the bottom end were more expensive than a fully reco'd D16a8 from a mate.

If you're gonna spend 500 on a new motor...u can get aftermarket rods with that kind of price.

Re: Buy new rods or new ZC?

Yes. Eagle rods should be around 250-350.

Re: Buy new rods or new ZC?

go eagle rods and some low compressing pistons...still driveable but will be sluggish till you get turbo on unless you 9 or .95 compression...only time you want 8.5 if your boosting like crazy 25 psi

Re: Buy new rods or new ZC?

How much would a project like this cost for the pistons and rods?

Re: Buy new rods or new ZC?

If I am going to Turbo it I am going to bore my block and I would have to buy new pistons for that so maybe just get the new rods now?

Re: Buy new rods or new ZC?

new rods? price ur motors first, fully rebuilt, better specs, new EVERYTHING, then u'll also most likely have spare head to work on.
