stant 170 degree thermostat for 3.4

i just read in underdog racing development that the stant #14007 thermostat is a small way to increase power by a little by taking the coolant from just over 190 to 180 degrees the the only bad thing is you heater is bothered only a little in cold weather and that engine wear and fuel economy is not affected. has any one heard of this .im not sure if it was talking about supercharged engines only?
