95 eclipse .. evo or stock 4g63 motor?

hello, i need to do a engine swap on my 95 eclipse. Looking for motors to buy. I found and evo for a good price, but my mechanic said he wont do any conversions and only a straight swap. The evo will not be a straight swap correct?

should i look to find someone that can do the evo replacement, or just get a stock with low milage. is there really that much of a difference?

thanks for any help

Re: 95 eclipse .. evo or stock 4g63 motor?

The EVO 4g63 is a completely different motor than the eclipse 4g63. Hardly anything (if anything) would match up to your engine bay. Stick with a 7 or 6 bolt eclipse 4g63. Go crazy and get an EVO 16G turbo if you want JDM parts under your hood.

The next person that uses "JDM" in this forum will be slapped.

this place claims its a straight forward engine swap heres is the email from him

This is a direct swap. Its just out of the japanese EVO. Its the same exact motor in the Eclipse/Talon we had here, opposed to the higher horsepower rating, bigger turbo, and stronger bottom end. Have him call us if he has any questions.

Re: 95 eclipse .. evo or stock 4g63 motor?

Depends on the EVO model. 1-3 will be a direct swap for a regular old 4g63T, the rest are just nice to look at.

the evolution III engine comes with a bronze valve cover,16g,510 injectors and upgraded cams.compaired to the cyclone that has the different intake mani, same injectors, turbo and cams such as the us 4g63 oh but has a red valve cover that says mitsu on it.

both are direct bolt ins,not the evo VIII 4g63.

One thing. Do you have a GST/GSX already? If not, forget about any swaps. If you have one, get a 6 bolt 4G63 and make 400whp.

i have a gst. and i dont know what 400 whp means. I am annoyingly ignorant about cars and helpless sorry.

The mechanic just needs a motor he can do a hassle free swap basically.

was wondering if I should

(1) get a exact stock

(2) go through the trouble to find a mechanic that will do an evo or some other engine that requires a bit of conversions?

The evo has nothing that we want. Get a 90-94 6 bolt motor.

It fits fine, but there are a few things you have to modify.

It sounds like your car is at a basic mechanic shop that can only do a direct engine swap. BUT, if you are already going to pay somebody to do the swap, get a 90-92 6 bolt 4g63. Like Joe said, there are some modifications, but the engines are about 400-600$ cheaper than the 95-99 4g63's.

Call a performance shop and ask if they have done the swap. Ask for details and make sure they know what they are doing. It would be a very good investment and you will probably save a little money.
